Dear colleagues of the IAMSG,
We are pleased to announce the call for participation in the
workshop-laboratory:
*“Sources and Musical Practices in Extraordinary Liturgical Ceremonies of
the Hispanic World (17th Century)”*4–6 December 2025
Baeza, Spain, Universidad Internacional de Andalucía (UNIA)
*Application deadline: 28 November 2025*
In the seventeenth century, extraordinary liturgical ceremonies unfolded a
fascinating sonic and ritual universe in which music played a central role.
This workshop-laboratory offers an immersion into those celebrations
through the study of musical sources, theoretical treatises, chronicles,
and liturgical ceremonials. The case of the consecration of Puebla
Cathedral in 1649 will serve as a point of departure for a historically
informed and collective reconstruction of plainchant, organ chant,
polychoral repertory, and their performative and scenic dimensions.
Participants will take part in both theoretical sessions and performance
practice activities, culminating in a public concert by Capella Prolationum
(Spain) and Ensemble La Danserye (Spain), within the framework of the Úbeda
& Baeza Early Music Festival.
Faculty includes:
- Drew Edward Davies (Northwestern University, Chicago, USA)
- Álvaro Flores Coleto (Archivo Manuel de Falla, Granada, Spain)
- José Antonio Gutiérrez Álvarez (Universidad de Granada, Spain)
- Bernardo Illari (University of North Texas, Denton, USA)
- Javier Marín López (Universidad de Jaén / FeMAUB, Spain)
