Dear members of AMS-IAMSG:

We are excited about our next meeting at the 2022 AMS-SEM-SMT Conference in
New Orleans. This event is a fantastic opportunity to talk, share our
ideas, and open productive dialogues about different aspects of ongoing
studies on Ibero American Music. This year, we invite our members and
colleagues to the AMS-IAMSG Lightning Lounge scheduled on *Friday, November
11th, From 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Malborough A/B Room. *

Likewise previous versions, this Lighting Lounge presents a selection of
short papers exemplifying recent trends and topics in Ibero-American music.
This time, our Lighting Lounge focuses on Digital Humanities and how
digital technologies have introduced new dynamics and forms of
collaboration, plurality, and investigation to our field. A concept that
refers to the multiple uses of digital technologies in the humanities;
Digital Humanities considers how digital technologies have challenged and
changed the user’s experience while setting new forms of making,
connecting, interpreting, and collaborating in the humanities. We will
discuss seven cases from Spain, Cuba, Mexico, Brazil, and ecclesiastical
archives across the Americas. Such a selection introduces topics that
include using digital platforms to promote Iberoamerican art songs and
creating new resources like the sonic digital cartography of the
pre-industrial city of Jaen in Spain, an open-access archive that indexes
the Cuban peer-to-peer network El Paquete Semanal, and new digital
inventories of Libros de Coro across the Americas. Moreover, these cases
also analyze how Digital Humanities have introduced new insights into the
study of wind bands and Andalusian processional music, the experimental
music scene in São Paulo, and Mexico’s salon culture. Each short
presentation extends for 10 minutes, followed by a response from Javier
Marin Lopez, Full Professor of Musicology at Universidad de Jaén and Vice
President of the Sociedad Española de Musicología (SEdeM). We are looking
forward to seeing you again at this extraordinary meeting.

Best regards,

Juan Fernando Velásquez
