Hello All,

Please see the information below that was forwarded to us by UC Riverside XCITE Instructional Design team pertaining to a workshop they are doing this Thursday:


Dr. Vanessa Ament and Dr. Richard Edwards from UC Riverside’s Exploration Center for Innovative Teaching & Engagement will host a conversation on best practices for K-12 remote teaching on Thursday, July 30 at 6:00 PM. They’ll share best practices for designing and adapting course content and how to better engage students, incorporate discussion-centered experiences, and assessment strategies and ideas for your subject and teaching style.

Some of the core topics include:


·        A paradigm of the theory and methods of Personable Learning as it applies to K-12

·        How to plan a welcoming map or introduction for your students

·        How to ensure your students feel connected and engaged with you as instructor and other students

·        How to consider the overall “storytelling” design of your semester

·        How to include low-stakes and high-stakes assessments that work within remote teaching

·        How to be your best self for a recorded lecture

·        How to incorporate discussions and peer learning


Dr. Edwards leads XCITE (Exploration Center for Innovative Teaching and Engagement) and specializes imaginative pedagogical methods for in-person and distance/remote learning.  Dr. Ament is a senior consultant for UCR’s office of Undergraduate Education and is an experienced K-16 education practitioner and scholar. Both Dr. Edwards and Dr. Ament offer expertise in adapting coursework, assessment, and engagement from the classroom to the virtual classroom.
