2026 UCR Staff Conference

The UCR Staff Conference
<https://staffassembly.ucr.edu/2026-staff-conference> is a virtual, two-day
annual event organized by and for staff at UC Riverside. Its purpose is to
provide professional development, foster engagement, and cultivate a
supportive, inclusive, and dynamic environment where every staff member can
thrive. This conference is co-hosted by the UCR Staff Assembly, Leaders of
Excellence and Distinction (LEAD), and Human Resources Employee and
Organizational Development (EOD).

This year’s conference theme is “Together, We Rise: Empower, Evolve, and
Excel.” It will feature inspiring keynote speakers and sessions that offer
invaluable insights.

Day One Keynote Speaker:

Stephen M. R. Covey is a world-renowned advisor and the bestselling author
of The Speed of Trust, Trust & Inspire, and Smart Trust. A leading
authority on leadership and ethics, Covey argues that trust is the "new
currency" of the modern world and the primary competency for today's
leaders.

Recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from Trust Across America, he
serves on the Government Leadership Advisory Council and specializes in
helping organizations build high-trust cultures to unleash human potential.

Day Two Keynote Speaker:

Will Giangrande bridges the gap between emerging talent and senior
leadership, translating diverse perspectives into unified performance. As
the founder of The NextGen Playbook, he equips organizations with practical
strategies to strengthen cross-generational communication and alignment.

A certified Take Flight Facilitator and Kindling Ambassador, Will leverages
individual work styles and mentorship to build more collaborative,
connected, and thriving teams.

Berkeley People Management: Power Skills & Communication Deep Dive Series &
Certificates
February 2026 - September 2026

This series of Zoom workshops provides University of California managers
and leads with the "power skills" needed to navigate our unique higher
education system. These non-technical, role-agnostic sessions equip leaders
to manage change, enhance team interactions, and drive workplace success
across all UC campuses, health centers, and labs.

accessibility, moving from the "why" of inclusive design to the "how" of
technical implementation. Participants will gain the skills necessary to
identify, prioritize, and remediate digital barriers to ensure a seamless
experience for all users.

SumTotal Next App Now Available
Mobile app users should transition to SumTotal Next byJuly 2026.

The newly rebranded SumTotal Next mobile app is now available for download
on both Google Play and iOS App Stores. SumTotal Next introduces a modern
interface, intuitive navigation, and new enhancements. While a few advanced
features from the current SumTotal Mobile App are still under development,
SumTotal Next already covers most day-to-day learning and workflow needs.
Cornerstone will retire the SumTotal Mobile (old) app in July 2026.

This workshop applies game thinking to the research process, turning the
development of search strategies and keywords into a series of interactive
challenges.

Whether you are an 'Explorer' looking to discover new resources or an
'Achiever' aiming to master the library system , you’ll earn points and
badges as you level up your information literacy skills. We use this
'spoonful of sugar' approach to make complex topics engaging, effective,
and tons of fun. Come play, compete, and learn!
