Graduate Community,

Just a friendly encouragement to take a few minutes and vote in this
years student government election. In addition to voting for next
year's leaders for GSA there are two important referenda on the
ballot. Pass or fail, these measures require at least a 20% turnout to
be official so we need as many people to vote as possible.

Voting can be done online and all the information you need and a link
to the online ballot are at http://elections.ucr.edu

There will be a coffee social in the GSA office on Thursday from 1-4
and Friday from 2-5. We will have computers available to vote then, so
if you want to put voting off until the last minute you could get a
muffin and a cup of coffee out of the deal.

Also, for your information, there has been some confusion about the
Green Campus Action Plan (GCAP). If you are not familiar with it, the
basic idea was to raise funds to cover the costs of getting solar
panels on campus to meet some of our energy needs. The idea came from
a group of undergraduates who were unaware that it was GSA who
determines what goes to the ballot for graduate students, and thus no
one in our organization was made aware of the GCAP until early this
week. At this point, the GCAP is being voted on only by the
undergraduates and would be funded with fees from the same if passed.
However, I will work with that group to see if an appropriate way for
GSA to be involved in "greening" the campus can be found, but at the
same time I am adamant that this fee should not be collected from
graduate students until such time as it might be duly approved.

Take care,

Gary Coyne
