 Hello my friends,

Our GSA Board has been working very hard to increase the number of programs
and events we have to offer.  There are several events going on this week
that you might find interesting:

1)   Consilience Seminar Series presents Dr. Franklin's discussion on "Civil
Rights, Black Power, and the Rise ofBarack Obama"

2)   Graduate Student Night at the Barn

3)   Spooky Halloween Coffee Break

4)   Softball Tournament

5)   Council Meeting

6)   Grad Bash



Consilience, *Tuesday* 10/28/08

Nurture your inner politico or community activist on as we discuss the
significance of the candidacy of Barack Obama with Dr. VP Franklin. Bring
questions and thoughts to discuss the meaning of the Barack Obama's
Candidacy.  Dr. Franklin holds a University of California President's Chair
and is a Distinguished Professor of History and Education. He is also the
Editor of the Journal of African American History.  Dr. Franklin has
published over fifty scholarly articles on African American history and
education. Commons 302 South @ 6pm; snacks and refreshments will be

Graduate Student Night @ the Barn, *Thursday* 10/30/08

The Barn will be offering its ordinary Happy Hour menu from 7:30pm-10:30pm.
A karaoke machine will be available for those brave or socially lubricated

Spooky Halloween Coffee Social, *Friday* 10/31/08

Come by the GSA office decked out in your costume or to look at other people
in their costumes from 1:30-3:30pm. Enjoy all the coffee you can drink
during that part of the day when you start to feel the sleepiest & munch on
halloween goodies such as pumpkin and/or bat shaped cookies. It will be as
spooky as possible for the afternoon! Be there, or beware...   For

Softball Tournament, *Saturday *11/1/08

Time to get your co-rec team ready for a GSA sponsored Softball Tournament
Saturday Nov 1st.  Team roster forms are now available at the beginning of
next week at the front desk in Commons 202, if you haven't completed
one.  Please
turn these in by Wednesday and if you have trouble completing your roster
but still want to play, let me know.  For further information contact Alex

GSA Council Meeting, *Wednesday* 11/12/08

Our November Council Meeting will be held on November 12th in Commons 355 at

Grad Bash, *Thursday* 11/13/08

Appear and meet some other grad students (or sit silently in a corner,
doesn't matter, just come!). Enjoy delicious FREE pizza+salad and win
