UCSA.
2. Specifics about the Whitelining at the September Regents meeting and

-------------------------------------------------------------
1. General Information about Whitelining.

There are four UCSA-affiliated whiteliners at each day of the Regents meeting.
Whiteliners are provided direct access to the Regents – they get to go past the
line that separates the approved guest from the audience that must sit in back.
Whiteliners therefore have the opportunity to speak directly with the Regents
and meet with them in informal situations such as breaks and meals.

The responsibility of a UCSA whiteliner is to advocate UCSA’s positions on
issues the Regents will be considering and to build relationships for UCSA with
as many of the Regents as possible. This is also one of the few times students
have the opportunity to tell the Regents about our priorities and our action
agenda.

Funding for travel and meals is provided by the UC Office of the President for
the day you are whitelining. Students are generally only appointed to whiteline
on one day of the two-day Regents meeting.

2. Specifics about the September Regents meeting.

The September Regents meeting is on September 19 and 20. With the release
and presentation of the UC Diversity Study at the September Regents meeting,
UCSA will specifically highlight the need to increase funding and institutional
funding for Academic Prep and outreach programs. We will also focus on
admissions eligibility requirements that disproportionately and negatively
impact underrepresented students.

If you are interested in whitelining on behalf of UCSA, please provide us with the
following information to: gsavpexternal at sa.ucsb.edu by September 6, 2007 at

4. System-wide Committee Application Due September 7.

For the 2007-08 academic year, please apply to serve on a systemwide
University committee. You can find the vacancies here: http://www.ucsa.org/
involved/syscomm/description.php

In addition to the vacancies listed on the website, we need student
representatives to 2 additional committees:

1. UC President Appointment Student Advisory Committee
2. Mental Health Oversight Committee

1. As you may know, President Dynes has resigned from his post, and the
University will soon begin searching for a new President. As detailed by
University of California policy, the UC Student Association (UCSA) will coordinate
a systemwide Student Advisory Committee for the search:
(http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/regents/policies/6142.html), comprised
of 1 student representative (graduate, professional, or undergraduate) from
each campus, for a total of 12 students.

2. Mental Health Oversight Committee - Last year, a systemwide report on
mental health issues and campus services was published. This year, the
oversight committee will be responsible for the oversight of the follow-through
on the report's recommendations. The next meeting will occur on October 5.

*TO APPLY for any of these committees, please submit your application by
September 7. The application can be found at:
http://www.ucsa.org/involved/syscomm/application.php

Final appointments will be confirmed during the September meeting of the UCSA
board of directors at UC Davis.

If you have any questions about the systemwide committees, please contact Ray
Austin at uadirector at ucsa.org or 510.834.8272.
