Hello all,

I hope y’all and yours are taking care. I'm emailing to invite you to learn
about and engage the ongoing work to create a Department of Black Study
here at UCR! Together, the Black Study Initiative (BSI) committee is
comprised of faculty, staff, and students across various fields and
disciplines as well as community leaders in the Inland Empire. As it should
be, all of us except a very select few are Black folks in the
world/academia and absolutely all of us are committed to and have
historically done liberatory work for/with Black folk.

We are pleased as a committee to have just submitted the proposal for a
community-rooted, interdisciplinary Black Study Department after just a
year of dreaming and developing with the campus community. As we want to
continually work with folks across campus and beyond, we've organized an
interactive roundtable discussion with the committee this Thursday at 11am
via zoom! This will include a significant audience question session where
we'll warmly welcome all generous engagement.

*tl;dr*

   - the committee working to create a Department of Black Study is having
   a public interactive conversation
   - it's happening tomorrow (Thursday) 11am-12:30pm via zoom
   - come to meet committee members, find out about the recently-submitted
department proposal, and ask questions you may have!

All information for the event is included below and on the attached flyer.
Please reach out to me directly if you have trouble with the registration.
Also feel free to share this with folks you think would be interested!

Hope to see you there!
