Dr. Valeria Dominguez

Dr. Valeria Dominguez is three-time graduate of the University of California, Riverside. She completed her bachelor's degree in Sociology, her Master's degree in Higher Education Administration and Policy, and her Ph.D. in Higher Education
Administration and Policy. Influenced by her identities as a first-generation immigrant Latina, Valeria’s work, advocacy, and scholarship focus on equity and social justice. Her dissertation focused on the strengths and impacts that Women of Color have on
higher education boards of trustees. During her Doctoral program, Valeria’s scholarship influenced her involvement in UC governance and passion for university service. She was the Academic Affairs Officer for UCR’s School of Education (2019-2020), the Vice-President
of the UCR’s Graduate Student Association (2020-2021), and the President of UCR’s Graduate Student Association (2021-2022). She now serves as an alumni advisor for organization. Valeria was also involved in the system-wide UC Graduate and Professional Council
for three years, and served as the Treasurer for two. These roles have granted her the opportunity to meet with CA Legislators, the UC Board of Regents, the UC President, the UC Office of the President, and community partners to advocate on behalf of graduate
and undergraduate students. Dominguez has a close affiliation with the UC Center for Free Speech and Civic Engagement, where she served on the National Advisory Board and was a two-time UC National Center for Free Speech and Civic Engagement VOICE Fellow.
She was also selected to be a UC Berkeley Center for Studies in Higher Education Gardner Fellow for her research on higher education boards.

and insights from nine-years of teaching in Oakland public schools, he interrogates how college readiness practices and school curricula shape existing inequalities by race, ethnicity, class, and gender. His research has appeared in the Harvard Educational
Review, Urban Education, the Review of Educational Research, and Educational Researcher, among others. He has written op-eds in the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, Inside Higher Ed, and Education Week. Previously, he was a President’s Postdoctoral
Scholar for the University of California, and he was awarded National Board Certification for secondary social studies teaching. He received his PhD from the University of Southern California, his MA from Stanford University, and his BA from UCLA.
