Job Summary
Specific Aims. Professor Robert Ream is seeking a Student Assistant for an NIH-funded longitudinal study of college student wellbeing. The specific aims of this study are: (1) To determine the contribution of educational protective factors (e.g., use of social supports, academic supports, basic needs supports) to cardiometabolic health outcomes over time; (2) examine weight-related behaviors (i.e., sleep, physical activity, diet) as mechanisms of associations between educational protective factors and cardiometabolic health.
Study Participants. Full-time first-year, second-year, first-year transfer, and second-year transfer undergraduate students (N=1,000) at University of California, Riverside (UCR).
Data Collection. We are collecting three types of data: online surveys, data from a campus health visit, and data from daily diary surveys and digital phenotyping data (gyroscope, GPS, and accelerometer, and screen time) from participants' smartphones.
Qualifications. Ideal candidates for the Student Assistant position will have 1) experience working with diverse students, 2) excellent verbal and written communication skills, 3) strong organizational skills, and 4) research interests at the intersection of higher education and health.
Desired Traits. A "student-first" mentality that prioritizes the needs and comfort-level of the student; operate from an asset framing of communities of color.
Job Description
Responsibilities and Duties
The Student Assistant will join an interdisciplinary research team to assist with a range of collaborative data collection activities including but not limited to the following:
* Campus health visit. Facilitate campus health visits in Dr. Ream's office (2124 Sproul Hall). We will obtain participants' anthropometric measures including height, weight, waist circumference, and blood pressure.
* Smartphone Subsample. We will invite the participant to participate in a 9-day daily diary and smartphone data collection sub-study;
* Weekly Team meetings (time TBD) in collaboration with 3E Study partners;
* Weekly 30-min Zoom meeting with UCR team to discuss site-specific demands (flexible scheduling based on your availability)
* Coordinate recruitment strategies;
* Assist in data analysis and paper writing
* Work closely with UCR Team (Dr. Ream, doctoral student Sofia Ulisses, undergraduate student assistant Omisha Sangani, and undergraduate student volunteers) on overall coordination.
Salary/Hours
The Student Assistant at 25% will be paid $25/hr. and can expect to work 10 hours per week depending on demand. [Schedule will be flexible based on work demands.]
