[Gradstudents] SOE is looking for a commencement student speaker!

Graduating Students: You're Invited to Audition for SOE's 2023 Commencement Speaker!

This year's ceremony will be held at the Toyota Arena on Thursday, June 22, and will be a joint ceremony with the School of Public Policy. Each school will have one student speaker representing their graduating class.

Speaker Requirements

  *   Be a degree candidate approved to walk at the 2023 Commencement Ceremony
  *   Demonstrate exceptional public speaking ability
  *   Be in good academic standing

Guidelines for Your Speech

  *   Maximum 3 minutes of original content
  *   Mindful of the audience, including a diversity of graduates, families, and friends
  *   A message that speaks to the power of education, and/or mentions pertinent issues in the field of education while thinking about your role/ contributions in the larger context of society

Selection Process

  *   Applicants must submit an application by 5 PM on April 3, 2023
  *   All students who apply will receive an audition in front of a graduation committee on the week of April 10th in-person at Sproul Hall
  *   All applicants must have their 3-minute speech prepared by their audition time
  *   The chosen student speaker will be supported by our professional staff in developing their final speech and rehearsing delivery, to ensure they are confidently prepared. Please note the final speech must be the same, pending any slight edits, as the one submitted for auditions
