[Gradstudents] Grad Slam Semi-Finalists, SOE Writing Cafe and more!

Grad Slam Semi-Finals<https://gsrc.ucr.edu/blog/2023/02/10/get-ready-grad-slam-semi-finals> are back in-person next week! Semi-Final A will take place on Wednesday, February 22nd at 1-2pm and Semi-Final B is scheduled 11am-12pm on Thursday, February 23rd. Both will be held in HUB 367.

TWO students from the School of Education have progressed to the 2023 Grad Slam Semi-Final Rounds!

  *   Elissa Monteiro | School Psychology | Are They READY: Ratings of Executive functioning and Associated Development in Youth, A Pilot Study Investigating the Utility of Screening Students' Executive Functioning Prior to Middle School
  *   Aya Shhub | Special Education | Phrasing and its Relation to Fluency and Comprehension for 4th-6th Students with ASD

All attendees can vote for their favorite presenter to win the Audience Choice Award.

SOE Graduate Writing Cafe: A Place to Connect and Write!

Are you tired of working on your research and writing in isolation? Do you need some inspiration to help you stay motivated? Then join us at the SOE Graduate Writing Cafe!

At the in-person writing cafe, you will have the opportunity to hear other graduate students' research presentations, work on your writing projects, get feedback from your peers, and connect with other graduate students. Whether you are writing a thesis, dissertation, research paper, or need a place to focus, this is the place for you.

Join the John Smartt Summer Scholars Program at Rutgers

The John Smartt Summer Scholars Program is an internship program developed by the Rutgers Center for Minority Serving Institutions (CMSI) in the Rutgers Graduate School of Education. The program provides interested master's students with the opportunity to gain professional experience, network with scholars in the field of higher education, and learn essential research skills related to equity and leadership in higher education.   *   The application for the Chancellor's "Making Excellence Inclusive" graduate student diversity certificate program<https://gsrc.ucr.edu/diversity-certificate> is now open through March 10th! The program will meet weekly in spring on Zoom on Wednesday afternoons.


  *   TADP is co-hosting two great workshops<https://tadp.ucr.edu/resources/workshops> next week on DEI-related issues for TAs. The first will be hosted in partnership with Songling Chen, PhD in the SOE, our GSA Diversity and Inclusion Academic Liaison, and is called "Addressing DEI in Courses That Typically Don't," and will be held in the XCITE Commons on Monday, February 27th at 10am. The second is co-hosted in the same location with XCITE on Thursday, March 2nd 11:30am-12:50pm (free lunch for those who register in advance!) and will look at "Applying the UC DEI Rubric as a TA."
