Dear SOE Graduate Students,



We are currently seeking up to three graduate students to serve as associate-instructors in our first-year and transfer learning community series for undergraduates in the major for fall 2023.  Application deadline 12 pm on Friday, August 25, 2023.



Course Description:

EDUC 093A – FIRST-YEAR SEMINAR: INTRODUCTION TO THE MAJOR AND UNIVERISTY; 2 units;

Provides opportunities to engage with Education faculty and learn about research. Introduces community learning options. Explores the structure and culture of university environment and the various support systems in place. Learn about student success strategies and consult with advisors for support. Graded Satisfactory (S) or No Credit (NC).



EDUC 094 - TRANSFER SEMINAR: EXPLORING THE TOOLS AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENT SUCCESS; 2 units;

Provides opportunities for engaging with Education faculty and learn about research. Explores university environment and opportunities for student success. Explores student success strategies and introduces opportunities to consult with advisors for support. Explores opportunities to broaden intellectual and professional opportunities in education. Graded Satisfactory (S) or No Credit (NC).



Associate-Instructor Minimum Qualifications:

An Associate Instructor, also known as “Associate In _,” is a full-time registered (12 units) graduate student who should be competent to work independently and without supervision to conduct the entire instruction of a lower division course.  The minimal qualifications for appointment to the title shall be possession of a master's degree or equivalent training and at least one year of teaching experience.



Preferred Qualifications for EDUC 093A and 094 Instruction: Familiarity with the University of California, Riverside (UCR) campus and its resources for undergraduate students.  Resources such as: Academic Resource Center (ARC), Library, Undergraduate Education’s Student Engagement, ability to partner with an ARC peer mentor, The Well, and CAPS.



Additional Information: Each section of the course is 2.0 units each, therefore for a 50% appointment, an instructor will be responsible for the instruction of two sections from the list below.  Each section is enrolling up to 25 students each for 093A and up to 50 students for EDUC 094.  If you are only available to lead the instruction for one section and would still like to be considered for this opportunity, please still apply as there may be an opening to teach.



Sections we are looking to possibly fill with associate-instructors:



  *   EDUC 093A-001 meeting on Wednesdays from 10-11:50 am
  *   EDUC 093A-002 meeting on Wednesdays from 12-1:50 pm
  *   EDUC 093A-003 meeting on Thursdays from 2-3:50 pm
  *   EDUC 093A-004 meeting on Thursdays from 4-5:50 pm
  *   EDUC 093A-005 meeting on Wednesdays from 2-3:50 pm
  *   EDUC 094-001 meeting on Wednesdays from 12-1:50 pm



Each section is currently scheduled for in-person instruction.

Applications require a cover letter indicating prior teaching experience, CV/resume and any additional documentation you feel is pertinent to express your teaching expertise (ex: teaching evaluations).
