The following course EDUC 290 will be offered by Dr. Solis during Winter 2022 below you will find a brief description of the course.



  *   Students will develop a further understanding of the relationship between word reading, fluency, and reading comprehension.
  *   Students will enhance their understanding of evidence-based teaching strategies that support 4-6th grade typically developing students and students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in key developmental reading components (i.e., word reading, reading fluency, reading comprehension, reading prosody)
  *   Students will develop a further understanding of what measures are used to assess key developmental reading components (i.e., word reading, reading fluency, reading comprehension, reading prosody)
  *   Students will develop a strong foundational understanding on how to administer standardized and researcher-developed reading and language assessments
  *   Students will be required to complete fieldwork hours at 4th-6th grade school sites administering a battery of language and reading assessments.
  *   Students will be required to complete online IRB training modules
  *   This course is designed to be taken over two quarters (Winter 2022 & Spring 2022). During Winter 2022 we will focus on assessment training and fieldwork administration. Spring 2022 will be an extension of this course where students will continue their fieldwork with a focus on data analysis and intervention alignment.

The following information goes into detail about what qualifications will support student success in this course:

Experience working with students in grades 4-6. Experience working with students with Autism spectrum disorders. Strong organizational skills, communication skills, and ability to work independently under prescribed guidelines and in coordination with others. Attention to detail with assessment administration, protocols, and data collection. Must have transportation and willingness to travel to public school sites in the area.
