[Gradstudents] UC Center Sacramento Online Talk For June 23: “Looking into the Educational Mirror: Ways to Promote Validating Practices and Policies in Education for Latina/o/x Students”

Join UC Center Sacramento remotely on Wednesday, June 23rd from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm for a talk with Dr. Louie F. Rodriguez, Interim Dean, Professor, and Bank of America Chair in Educational Leadership, Policy, and Practice in the Graduate School of Education at UC Riverside, on “Looking into the Educational Mirror: Ways to Promote Validating Practices and Policies in Education for Latina/o/x Students.” Drawing on various asset-based conceptual frameworks and referencing preliminary data from an in-depth study with Latina/o/x high school students, this presentation will explore how additive frameworks and Latina/o/x excellence can be incorporated into educational policy and practice. Join UC Center Sacramento remotely on Wednesday, July 14th from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm for a talk with Dr. Julie Bianchini, Professor of Science Education and Faculty Director of the CalTeach/Science and Mathematics Initiative in the Department of Education at UC Santa Barbara, on “Asset-Based Approaches to Support Multilingual Learners in Science Classrooms.” This talk will share their asset-based Multilingual Learner (ML) instructional framework and lessons learned from their research that can then inform district and state policy initiatives related to teacher education and professional development in science education.
