it had acquired in Germany in 1944-1945 to U.S. research libraries. In subsequent decades these libraries did little to adequately describe and analyze these cartographic resources, despite their historical significance. The maps, published between 1860 and
1945, are therefore best understood as a hidden collection. </span></p>

2017 pooled resources to digitize the maps in their possession. Detailed metadata has been created, including source map data and the corporate bodies that produced the maps. About 15,000 sheets are now available through UC Berkeley’s digital collections.</span></p>

nature of German cartographic history, with varying contributing mapping agencies, diverse source material, and a range of sophistication and technique. A smaller number of other types of maps - city plans, road maps, military planning maps, ethnographic maps,
geological maps, and maps inventorying key resources in territories occupied by the Nazi regime - are also part of this collection.</span></p>
