Hello everyone,
This is a gentle reminder that our next Geospatial/GIS meetup will be held
*tomorrow*,*Tuesday **February 10*, from 12:00 - 12:50 pm.
https://ucr.zoom.us/j/95462301391?pwd=2uXZuBCRHjloR8r6HSBc3qvMO9A32h.1
Meeting ID: 954 6230 1391
Passcode: 440345
Kan Wang, Lecturer at the UCR School of Business, will give a presentation
titled *“GIS is Everywhere - From a Business Perspective.”*
While GIS as a technology is deeply technical in nature, business students
need to understand its strategic impact on the world around them. Join us
for an informal sharing session where we look beyond technical architecture
to explore real-world relevance and the purpose behind spatial data.
In this session, Kan will share the teaching philosophy he found most
effective for sparking curiosity by helping students recognize the
invisible spatial technology powering the organizations they engage with
every day. When students begin to see GIS everywhere in places like their
favorite retail apps and global supply chains, they move from simply
learning a technical skill to understanding why organizations depend on
spatial intelligence for long-term survival and competitiveness.
*Kan Wang is a seasoned technology leader and educator with over 18 years
of experience. As a former Assistant Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder for the
County of Riverside, Kan worked with dedicated teams to pioneer
transformative ways to leverage technology and GIS to enhance operations
and constituent services.*
*Currently, he serves as a consultant helping counties modernize through
impactful technology solutions, and is a Lecturer at the UC Riverside
School of Business where he teaches the Business Applications of Geographic
Information System course, drawing on over 15 years of teaching experience.
With dual master's degrees in Business Administration and Applied Computer
Science, Kan specializes in bridging the gap between technology and
actionable business strategies.*
The meetup will start with announcements of general interest.
