Geospatial/GIS Meetup
Tuesday May 12, 2026 ⋅ 12pm – 12:50pm
Pacific Time - Los Angeles
Hello everyone,Our next Geospatial/GIS meetup will be held on Tuesday, May
12 from 12:00-12:50 pm. The meetup will take place on Zoom, and will be
recorded.Danelle Angeline Baronia with the Center for Conservation
Biology's Sweet Lab will present on "The Prioritization, Adaptation, and
Resilience for Climate (PARC) Toolkit for Desert Climate Resilience."The
Desert Climate Resilience Initiative (DCRI) for the Coachella Valley builds
scientific expertise and community engagement around the relationship
between native plant communities, climate change and carbon stores in the
desert, and building equity within the Coachella Valley. This program has
built a collaborative space and framework from which to launch research,
partnerships, workshops, and projects focusing on vegetation, plants, and
resilience to climate change. The Prioritization, Adaptation, and Resilience
for Climate(PARC) toolkit is a public web tool created for the DCRI that
focuses on promoting resilience and identifying needs for promoting outdoor
equity within the Coachella Valley. We have compiled existing data on
native plant species, ecosystem dynamics, and carbon storage in a
science-based tool that will: 1) Provide decision support for sustainable
land management with an understanding of capacity and ability to enhance
community climate resilience to prioritize land acquisitions, 2) Inform the
public on the current distribution of carbon stocks within the region and
ways that native plant diversity may change in the future, and 3) Promote
equity and access through the inclusion of trails and other recreational
access areas, as well as culturally important plants to the local
indigenous community. Join this session to learn about the work that went
into creating this web tool and to explore ways to navigate the PARC
Toolkit.Danelle Angeline Baronia is a Field Biologist and the Outreach and
Engagement Lead at the University of California, Riverside’s Center for
Conservation Biology Sweet Lab. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in
Ecology, Behavior, and Evolution and a Master of Science degree in Biology,
both from the University of California, San Diego. With the Center of
Conservation Biology, she has helped to spearhead their Desert Climate
Resilience Initiative that is focused on building climate resilience within
the Coachella Valley. The meetup will start with announcements of general
interest. To register, please respond to this calendar invitation, or
