Hello everyone,
Our Geospatial/GIS meetup for May will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, May 9 from 12:00 - 12:50 pm PDT, on Zoom and in Rivera Library, Room 140.
(To find Rivera 140: turn right after entering Rivera Library. Keep going until you pass the elevators. Room 140 is on the corner of the hallway you'll see to your left.)
At this meetup, we'll have a presentation by Dr. Hector Zumbado-Ulate on Using species distribution models and GIS methods to assess the risk of invasion by a vineyard moth pest guild in the West Coast of the USA.

The recent invasion of the European grapevine moth (Lobesia botrana) in California suggests that viticultural areas in the western United States may face severe economic consequences from this and other Tortricid and Pyralid moth species if they were to establish. To gain insights into the risk these grapevine pests pose, we used occurrence records for L. botrana and four other moths native to Europe or the eastern United States and select environmental variables to predict the extent of suitable habitat and potential pest co-occurrence along the West Coast of the United States. The results of this assessment may help with the optimization of surveillance efforts by indicating which species or areas should be prioritized for the deployment of invasive pest detection programs with pheromone traps.

Dr. Hector Zumbado-Ulate is a postdoctoral researcher at UC Riverside's Department of Entomology and at the Center of Conservation Biology. Hector's research combines spatial analyses, geographic information systems, and niche modeling to examine the distribution of native and invasive species at different spatiotemporal scales.

We'll also have time for announcements and discussion.

The meetup will be recorded.
