Hello everyone,

Our next Geospatial/GIS meetup will be held on Thursday, March 10, from 12:00 - 12:50 pm.

Owen Mo and Tricia Vivian from the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) will give a presentation on SBCTA GIS Open Data Site & Viewer.


SBCTA leverages an Open Data site through ArcGIS Hub product as the showcase to internal and external audiences for sharing and exploring various types of demographic, social and economic GIS data. The SBCTA GIS team continues to refine and improve user experience in terms of how they can explore, discover and extract the data for their needs.



With this new GIS Viewer built from Geocortex platform, users are presented with a full browser-window sized map view through Desktop, tablets and Mobile, as they can navigate an area to see how the data might answer their geospatial questions.  Additional, users are presented more dynamic menu options to explore data categorized by similar types. Without needing a login account, users will also be given more cartographic controls for changing individual feature layer presentations to suit their particular needs. This viewer contains a print map feature that has easier functions for end users to generate more professional looking printouts. Finally, this app allows users to review, create and download multiple layers of data.



Both Open Data Site and GIS Viewer focus on showing roadway, transit, and active transportation projects, as well as SBCTA programs and services to various types of demographic information. The Open Data site and GIS Viewer enable SBCTA to share our data more quickly, frequently, and precisely with our member jurisdictions, partner transit agencies, consultants and the general public, given the intuitive user interface and automated data extraction, packaging, and delivering components.

Our presenters:
Owen Mo - GIS Administrator, SBCTA
Owen Mo graduated from CSULA in 2011 with a Master Degree in Geography focusing on web application development, spatial & statistical analysis, 2D & 3D cartographic design and development, as well as transportation planning.
Since 2021, Owen has been the GIS Administrator of San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) managing SBCTA Enterprise GIS system and assisting various departments in the agency with mapping, web application and data analytics. From 2016 to 2021, Owen was the GIS Architect for the County of Ventura, where he managed Ventura County GIS Enterprise (VCGIS) system while developing and managing Countywide GIS web applications. Prior to his work at Ventura County, he worked as a 3D GIS Analyst & Senior Transportation Planner with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) for 7 years.

Tricia Vivian - GIS Analyst, SBCTA
Tricia graduated from CSUSB in 2014 with a Degree in Geological Sciences and a GIS Certificate.
She joined the SBCTA team in August 2021 as a GIS Analyst and works on various transportation related mapping projects. She started her career as intern for San Bernardino County Public Works where she then got hired on as an Engineering Technician. There, she led various GIS projects for the County Flood Control District as well as performing water sampling and business inspections for the County Stormwater Program.

We'll also have time for announcements, sharing map-related products you've created or that caught your eye, and other possibly other discussion.
