In December 2021, SEM announced the inauguration of its Public
Ethnomusicology Mentoring Program. This program will pair individual senior
colleagues working in public/applied ethnomusicology with individual
early-career colleagues interested in pursuing similar professional paths
outside the academy. Mentors will be available for one-on-one consultations
with their mentees monthly or every other month over the course of a year,
starting in early 2022.

*To apply to the program as a mentee**,* please visit the Public
Ethnomusicology Mentoring Program
<https://www.ethnomusicology.org/page/Resources_PublicMentoring> page on
the SEM website and submit a brief application form and letter of
interest. *The
deadline for applications* is Tuesday, January 18, 2022. SEM will select a
minimum of six mentees for the 2022 pilot year of this program.

SEM thanks Nancy Groce for coordinating its Public Ethnomusicology
Mentoring Program and thanks the initial group of mentors for their
participation. Mentors include John Fenn (American Folklife Center); Nancy
Groce (American Folklife Center); Terry Liu (Martin & MacArthur Gallery,
Koloa, HI); Maureen Loughran (American Routes); Clifford Murphy (National
Endowment for the Arts); and Dwandalyn Reece (Smithsonian National Museum
of African American History and Culture).

SEM’s mentoring program is part of a broader initiative to develop Career
Resources in Public and Applied Ethnomusicology
