Hi, all.

I'm very sad to inform you that former department staff member Gevin
Kenney passed away in the care of his family in Alabama on the afternoon
of February 8th, after a protracted struggle with heart failure; the
radiation treatments that had cured him of Hodgkins lymphoma several
decades ago also damaged his heart to the point where it could
eventually no longer function. Gevin worked in the department for many
years, primarily with Nick Toscano, and after he left UCR he went into
trucking, from which he had to retire due to his worsening heart
problems. He then spent several years working as an Ag Inspector for the
USDA, including during COVID, when work in meat production facilities
were one of the few government services still considered critical.

Those of us who remember Gevin will never forget his booming, boisterous
voice, and irrepressibly cheerful nature. I spoke with him shortly
before his passing, and he wanted me to tell people that the years he
spent at UCR were the happiest of his life.

Peace,
