<p>We are excited to announce a series of videography training workshops we've developed based on input many of you provided in a recent survey. The first session will be held November 20-21 in Davis. There is a maximum of 25 participants and participants will need to cover their own travel. Please see the description below and hold the time on your calendar if you'd like to attend. Our Program Support Unit colleagues will be following up soon with information on how to register.</p>

<p style="font-weight:400"><strong><u>Videography 101</u></strong></p>
<p style="font-weight:400">In this three-hour course, participants will learn: </p>
<ol>
<li style="font-weight:400">Photographic theory - framing, composition, screen direction, aspect ratio, exposure, color temperature, and depth of field </li>
<li style="font-weight:400">Nomenclature and shooting techniques for both supported and unsupported image capture</li>
<li style="font-weight:400">Methodology and preparation using shot lists, shooting schedules, interview question formulation, and the BLuRS production sequence </li>
</ol>
<p style="font-weight:400">Attendees will learn how to achieve basic production goals and adequate image acquisition using smartphone camera apps and will be informed as to the benefits and drawbacks of video production using these devices. Attendees will be also provided equipment recommendations for purchase.</p>
<p style="font-weight:400"><strong><u>Audio Production 101</u></strong></p>
<p style="font-weight:400">This three-hour course will provide:</p>
<ul>
<li style="font-weight:400">Field recording basics including level-setting, audio monitoring, recording environments, microphone types and pick-up patterns, and cables / connectors / adapters</li>
<li style="font-weight:400">Basic audio post-production including ingesting and organizing files, normalizing audio levels, cleaning up “bad” audio, and synchronizing audio with video</li>
</ul>
<p style="font-weight:400">In addition, attendees will be provided with comparisons of competing nonlinear audio editing applications (e.g., Adobe Audition, Audacity, daVinci Resolve).</p>
<p style="font-weight:400"><strong><u>Editing 101 (second day)</u></strong></p>
<p style="font-weight:400">This four-hour course will cover editing theory and visual storytelling via:</p>
<ul>
<li style="font-weight:400">Psychology (the Kuleshov effect), types of cuts and when to make them (e.g., jump cuts, match cuts, smash cuts, transitions), and how to assemble a scene using a master and inserts</li>
<li style="font-weight:400">Comparison and contrast between nonlinear editing platforms</li>
<li style="font-weight:400">Establishment of basic / universal principles including organization of your editor, ordering your timeline, and sequence presets</li>
<li style="font-weight:400">Exploration of common editing tools like lift / extract, splice / overwrite, and roll edit</li>
<li style="font-weight:400">Brief overview of LUTs and coloring </li>
</ul>
<p style="font-weight:400">Attendees will be provided with footage to edit and will break into teams where they will attempt to assemble a sequence with live coaching and consultation.</p>
