I'm pleased to announce that we will be holding the annual EDGE spring
symposium (back after a hiatus last year) on *May 22nd, 2026 *from 3-7
pm at the UCR Botanic Gardens!
Our keynote speaker this year is *William Berelson*, Paxson H. Offield
Professor in Coastal and Marine Systems and Professor of Earth Sciences,
Environmental Studies and Spatial Sciences at the University of Southern
California.
Prof. Berelson is also a co-founder and scientific advisor to Calcarea, a
carbon sequestration start-up.

In addition to the keynote presentation and a sit-down dinner in the
Botanic Gardens, we will have student/postdoc/faculty research
presentations and award a Geographer's scholarship. Details for
presentations and the scholarship application will follow shortly.

The EDGE Institute will be awarding the *Geographer's Scholarship for
Global Change Science and Sustainability* at this year's EDGE spring
symposium on Friday, May 22nd.
Funded by UCR Geography alumni, this scholarship supports UCR students
pursuing studies leading to an improvement in our understanding of global
change processes and/or translating that understanding into recommendations
that shape public policy. If your research addresses sustainability,
environmental impacts, climate change or global change, this application is
for you!
This year we will be awarding an undergraduate scholarship for eligible
juniors/seniors of up to $2,500 and a graduate scholarship for eligible
first or second year students of up to $5,000.
