In brief:

A postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Entomology at the
University of Wisconsin-Madison in Madison, WI focusing on the use of
semiochemicals to refine management strategies for insect pests of apple.
This work involves collaborating with a diverse group of researchers within
the USDA SCRI funded project “Cultivating Tomorrow’s Orchard: Evolving and
Enhancing IPM in Eastern Tree Fruit Systems”.

The postdoctoral researcher will refine the use of semiochemicals in the
implementation of mass trapping and mating disruption to manage
Lepidopteran insect pests of apple. The researcher is expected to lead the
research and to develop methods to improve the use of mating disruption in
apple orchards, develop the use of kairomones, and identify new
semiochemicals to optimize the implementation of mass trapping and mating
disruption in apple orchards.

We are looking for a highly motivated and independent researcher who will
be able to manage this project in Wisconsin and balance field work with
laboratory assays. The researcher is expected to use and maintain
analytical chemistry equipment, conduct behavioral assays, conduct
analytical chemistry analyses, and conduct field evaluations of
semiochemicals. The researcher will be responsible for supervising
undergraduate students, designing and conducting the research, analyzing
the data, and reporting research results in peer-reviewed publications
under the supervision of Dr. Christelle Guédot.

The position will be at the University of Wisconsin in Madison in the
Department of Entomology in the Guédot’s Laboratory (
https://guedotlab.russell.wisc.edu).

Applicants must have received a Ph.D. in entomology, ecology or a related
field with demonstrated experience in chemical ecology and entomology. The
Ph.D. must have been obtained within the past 2-3 years and the candidate
should have less than 3 years postdoctoral experience.  Applicants must
have strong English writing and oral communications skills, strong
organizational skills, and a clean driving record. Demonstrated record in
writing peer-reviewed publications, being comfortable working independently
and collaboratively with other researchers and with grower-cooperators, and
supervising undergraduate students is expected.

The position is available for 3 years, with annual renewal dependent on
performance and progress made by the individual. This position includes
salary and full benefits including paid annual leave and parental leave.
