Dear CNAS Chairs,



As you are likely aware, the campus sent an email on Sunday about an
incident in which an assault rifle was discovered on campus:

Many of you are received follow-up questions. Here is a statement your unit
can feel free to email in response. We will update with more information as
we have it.





*Thank you for your outreach. We understand the concern about the
information the university shared on Sunday. Campus administration made the
decision to proactively send a statement about the student so the members
of the campus community are aware of a serious incident on campus and can
make decisions about their own well-being and safety. *



*The situation is concerning. However, based on the information we have at
this time, we do not believe there is a threat to the campus community. We
expect to have more information in the coming hours and days and UCPD is
regularly evaluating the situation. If circumstances change regarding the
safety of the campus community, UCR will take all necessary steps,
including but not limited to closing campus. *



*Instructors can make decisions at their discretion about whether to move
in-person classes to Zoom.  *
