All,
We are going to get an audit from OP out at AgOps. What this means for us
(you) is the following.
1. If you have nothing going on at AgOPs including storage of anything,
you can stop reading and not worry about it.
2. If you have anything stored *anywhere at AgOps*, you need to do the
following quite soon (within a couple of weeks), hopefully by the end of
the year (Happy Holidays!)
*A*. Tidy up your storage space (trailer, room in the dust house, cold
rooms (working or otherwise), garages, etc. If you are using storage rooms
in the dust house, nothing can be stored higher than 4 ft without secondary
securement. So *if you are storing things on shelves higher than 4 feet,
you need to stretch bungie cords or light weight chains across the shelves
sto prevent stuff from falling in a quake. *I also *strongly suggest* you
store anything that will fit in large plastic bins with secure lid to
prevent rats from making homes in your stuff.
*B*. For each of your spaces, minimize all things chemical/hazardous.
*C.* For any space in which any chemical (pesticides, etc) are located, you
should have an EHS sign on the door (the multicolor gizmo like the one
outside your lab). Any chemicals stored should *ALREADY *be on your
chemical inventory and properly stored--if not, please attend to this
immediately. But, under no circumstances should you be storing anything
flammable in areas without fire suppression/hoods (like your lab has). No
gasoline, alcohol, acetone, etc should be stored out there. This includes
things like gas tanks on chain saws, weed eaters, d-vacs, etc. All gas
tanks need to be empty and dry prior to storage.
*D.* For each space, you are *required to provide key access* (no
combination locks). Please deposit properly labelled keys with the Krista
or Bill
*E. * Store nothing in shared space (dust out lab, restroom, etc). Store
nothing on the dust house loading dock without checking with me first.
*E*. Each space (trailer, room, cold room, etc) should have a laminated
sign with the following information in clearly readable large font. Start
inspecting signage annually to make sure it survives the elements. Krista
has the departmental laminator
- PI Name
- What is being stored (e.g. cages, tools, field equipment).
- EHS signage if appropriate (see "C" above)
- At least 2-3 emergency contact phone numbers
You will need to figure out a good way to attach the sign to your space. I
am going to use heavy duty duct tape.
Questions? No whining allowed.
