Dear researchers,
There is a large oriental fruit fly (OFF) infestation in Redlands.
Unfortunately, I heard today they found 4 flies in Riverside and if they
find a total of 6 flies we will be in a quarantine. We are working with
USDA APHIS/CDFA
to start treatments so that if/when the quarantine is established we will
have started and be in compliance for the required pre harvest treatments.
If a quarantine is established, there will be 4 preharvest treatments
required prior to harvest. If we were in a quarantine and started
treatments today, harvest would be allowed January 2.
Until a quarantine is established, you can harvest. If an OFF quarantine is
implemented, treatments will be required for all citrus and avocados EXCEPT
HASS, Hass is not a host. OFF has an extensive host list, see attached.
Please let us know of fields where you will harvest and take fruit off
campus within the next 2 months so we can include them in our treatment
plan.
Pending approval we will start treatments on Navel oranges and lemons.
Please forward this info to others you feel need the info.
Peggy
