Program has fewer applicants than usual this year, and I fear with all the
messaging around the annual meeting our advertising for this is getting
lost in the mix.  Would you mind suggesting to any students and postdocs in
your department, especially those interested in careers outside of
academia, to consider applying

for the PACT program?  The deadline is June 1 but we can extend it to June
14 if needed to give students time to write a statement and get a letter of
approved participation from their supervisors.

PACT is a six month program where mentees are paired with career
consultants outside of academia (mostly industry and government
scientists), assigned to small groups with a career consultant moderating
the monthly conversation, monthly webinars on the various topics with
speakers from a range of backgrounds, and recommended selected reading on
the monthly topics.  The registration cost is $100 which is a small
investment in a larger networking and professional development
opportunity.  We’ve had really high rates of satisfaction from the past two
years of participants, and I think it’s a great way for students to connect
with the broader entomological community outside of their institution.
