Subject: Rhode Island College is Hiring Two Tenure-track Faculty to Start
August 2023!
To: Kolibachuk, Dana J. <dkolibachuk at ric.edu>
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am the Chair of the Biology Department at Rhode Island College and I
wanted to inform you about two tenure-track faculty positions that we are
seeking to fill. Rhode Island College is a mid-sized institution of about
6400 students located in a suburban setting in Providence. We service a
diverse student population with over 40% of the undergraduates are students
of color and over 45% are the first in their family to attend college.
Recently,
RIC was federally designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). We
seek candidates whose background, teaching interests, and research agenda
will help foster diversity with the College.
The Department of Biology currently offers Bachelor of Science degrees in
Biology, Health Sciences, and Medical Imaging as well as a minor in biology.
We also have a small graduate program offering a M. A. and a Certificate
of Graduate Study. In addition, the Biology Department provides courses
taken by students in other programs across the campus, such as Nursing and
Education. Starting this fall, the Biology Department will offer a
Bachelor of Science degree in Biotechnology, a multi-disciplinary program
with an internship component.
Faculty within the Biology Department have the potential to access
state-wide funding opportunities and core facilities: RI-EPSCOR and
RI-INBRE. As a small state in New England, Rhode Island has much to offer
with proximity to beaches, wooded areas, and the cultural and academic
resources found in Providence and nearby Boston and New York.
I have attached two job descriptions to this email. At first glance, it
may seem that the two positions are nearly the same. However, there are
differences. One position is for a Cellular Biologist who will teach our
existing Cellular and Molecular Biology (BIOL320) course as well as develop
and teach courses to support our new biotechnology major. The second
position is for a Molecular Biologist who will develop the internship
component as well as develop and teach courses to support the biotechnology
program. The successful applicant for the second position will also play an
instrumental role in the design of teaching and research laboratories that
focus on protein expression and purification technologies used in the
biotechnology industry.
Although the successful candidate is expected to develop a research program
involving undergraduates and Master’s students, the primary focus of this
position is education. Both of the positions start in August 2023 and
interested applicants may apply through the RIC website (
https://employment.ric.edu/). As an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity
institution which values and is committed to expanding the diversity of its
faculty and staff, Rhode Island College invites members of protected
classes, including minorities and persons with disabilities, to identify
themselves as such at the time of application. While these positions are
listed as “open until filled”, early submission of applications will be
given higher priority and applications will be reviewed on a regular basis.
I would appreciate it if you could forward this email and its attachments
to anyone who might be interested in applying for these positions, such as
students completing their Ph.D. requirements and post-docs. While more
information about the Biology Department can be found on-line (
http://www.ric.edu/department-directory/department-biology), applicants may
also contact me directly at dkolibachuk at ric.edu and I will gladly answer
their questions.
Thank you for your time and I hope that you are having a wonderful day.
Sincerely,
Dana Kolibachuk
Associate Professor of Biology
