Dear All,



Please join me in congratulating Gian and Nina!



I am happy to announce Gian Ledesma as the new Financial Services Analyst for the Purchasing/Travel team!  Gian has proven to be an asset to the department, and we are thrilled he was the successful candidate for this position.  In his new role, Gian will share travel support needs, provide support for purchasing requests, assist with the management of facility workorders, process insurance claims and special projects related to purchasing and travel as they arise.



Fun Facts about Gian:

Graduated in 2012 from CSUSB with a BA in Criminal Justice, started working for UCR in 2013 @ UNEX providing instructional support for classroom setups and then moved over to the accounting side. We were fortunate to have him join Entomology in July 2022.  His life centers around his 8-year-old son Theo.  They enjoy going to skate parks, riding bikes, arcades & drawing.  In his personal down time, Gian likes hiking and spending time with family and friends.



I'd also like to formally welcome Nina Nguyen as the Financial Analyst for the Contracts & Grants team! Nina is a familiar face to some as she once worked in the department as a student assistant and helped with receiving, mail distribution and building the website.  Nina was hired as a career employee in April 2023 and has been learning some of the old financial applications, our department shadow systems for monitoring shared funds, assisting with receiving and prepping for the new financial system.  Moving forward she will be assisting our C&G Analysts with proposal submissions, monitoring shared funds, assist with preparing monthly financial statements and ad hoc reports as needed.



Fun Facts about Nina:
UCR Alumni with a BS in Environmental Science. Before joining the department, Nina worked at Hub International as a specialist in Domestic and International Mergers and Acquisitions. One of her favorite pastimes is cooking dishes of different cuisines and trying to get them as close to authentic as possible! Current favorites are Thai, Japanese, and Italian foods. She also loves scouting out new restaurants to dine at in the OC and LA areas. She also enjoys spending time with her family bowling and currently has a high score of 203!



While we are closing the books for FY23 and learning a new financial system, we will also be running a recruitment for Gian's replacement.  Until the position is filled, Gian will continue serving the department from the front desk and learning various aspects of his new role.  We hope to have the position filled in 4-6 weeks.
