All,
I have sad news to report.  Mir Mulla passed away Sunday, Jan 29 peacefully
at home surrounded by family here in Riverside.  For those of you who may
not know, Mir served on the faculty of the Department from 1956 through
2006 achieving the rank of Distinguished Professor.  Attached are the
obituary his family wrote (for those interested information about a
memorial service is in there (this Saturday).  I hope those of us that can
make it will do so), his biography when he officially retires (he never
stopped publishing), his CV, and a picture.  For those of us who do not
realize it, Mir created the Endowed Chair in Medical Entomology, created
the Mulla endowment to support undergrads, provides the funds to build the
Entomology Research Museum, and I think, provided the funds to build a
research facility in the Coachella Valley (named in his honor).  All this
in addition to publishing over 500 papers.  He was on our faculty for an
astonishing 50 years (1956-2016)!
