Two open positions at The Insect Management and Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory (IMMDL<https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/ourfocus/planthealth/ppq-program-overview/science-technology/immdl-texas>, Edinburg, Texas) will be working on entomology and biology of fruit flies to develop or assist in the development of new and enhanced methods, practices, and procedures necessary to improve the effectiveness of the mass production of fruit flies, and the development of new technology used in sterile insect technique (SIT) control strategies.  Project responsibilities encompass planning and execution of methods development efforts for the biological and sterile insect technique control of invasive fruit flies of economic importance.

The successful candidates will use scientific knowledge to select and adapt existing methodology in the development and utilization of new technologies in sterile insect technique, invasive fruit fly detection, control, and eradication with potential for solving problems attributed to invasive fruit flies of economic importance. The scientists will conduct both laboratory and field investigations.to<http://investigations.to> develop improved methods, diets, quality control measures, insecticide testing, new diet development and improvements, field studies on efficacy of attractants, lures, trapping methods, insecticide trials, quality control of release methods, and other unknown future impacts.
