Hello Ent. Dept.,
Please review some safety highlights/updates below:
1. Research and Safety Questions General Information
* Most Information can be found at EHS website: https://ehs.ucr.edu
* Any general inquiries regarding EHS should be sent to the email: ehslaboratory at ucr.edu<mailto:ehslaboratory at ucr.edu> (so that it gets answered/directed to the right person more quickly)
* Normal Business hours questions: (951) 827-5528
* After Hours/Emergency please call 911 or UCR PD : (951) 827-5222

2. 12 months of Research Safety
* Each of you should receive monthly emails directly from EHS titled: 12 Months of Research Safety | Environmental Health & Safety (ucr.edu)<https://ehs.ucr.edu/laboratory/12monthsofresearchsafety>
* Each month a new safety topic is highlighted. In March there was a great one on field Safety. You can view the archives in the link above.
3. Reminder of Minimum PPE required in Laboratories is (especially as we approach summer):
* Long Pants
* Closed toe shoes
* Safety Glasses/goggles
* Lab Coats
4. Recent Incidents
5. Please make sure correct PPE is used for experiments. A few incidents recently involved eye injury that could have been avoided with PPE
* Class 4 laser was being repaired but was not confirmed to be “off” and an individual looked at it without proper eyewear
* UV gel viewing lamps used without UV goggles
6. EHS is looking for feedback on how they are doing and what they can do to improve.
* Please submit comments/suggestions to:

The biggest findings are always training records not being up to date. While your lab may need more training,
the Minimum Training requirements are :

* COVID-19 Prevention (1X)
* Fire Extinguishers (yearly)
