Unfortunately, we were hit again last night. They attempted to steal 3
vehicles, knocked out windows of vehicles, pulled ignition assemblies,
loaded mowers and equipment on a trailer and pulled the trailer with the
Cushman that they had jury rigged. They did not leave with any large items
since they could not get a vehicle to power through the fence. It is
uncertain where the entered or left on foot.

They know what was here and I’m guessing they will be back.

Officers Sica and Estrada were very helpful. The UNET team needs to be
reassembled!

We need additional patrols and surveillance cameras installed. Even with
our internet issues (microwave connection to campus is not always stable)
cameras would be a deterrent.

Thank you.

Thank you Vice Chancellor Bomotti for connecting us with Professor Redak.

Dear Dr. Redak,

Thank you for sharing your concerns and request for additional police
patrols at AgOps due to the most recent, as well as prior, incidents of
vandalism and theft.

Dr. Mauk had also reached out to me on 2-10-2022 and requested additional
police checks. I immediately directed our officers to initiate increased
patrol checks of the area. I will follow up to ensure we are regularly
conducting patrol checks, particularly in the evenings and weekends.

I would welcome the opportunity to meet with you and/or your
representative(s) next week to tour the AgOps area together in order to
help me learn more about the area and important operations there. Please do
not hesitate to call me if I can be of service. My cell phone number is
949-922-9398.

Sincerely,

*--Anthony*

Hello

Sorry to hear about this issue at ag ops. Seems like more and more of
these types of issues around campus. I am looping in the individuals who
have direct responsibility for UCRPD and I am sure they will be able to get
back to you.

I have not seen any cameras at ag ops – not sure if you have any/many over
there or not.

Thanks

Gerry

Gerry,

I am putting a pitch in here for additional police coverage at night out at
AgOps--especially the areas that contain greenhouses, buildings, and other
structures. Two weeks ago, I had two of my greenhouses broken into.
Nothing was seriously damaged just cages thrown around and some lights
broken and some, what appears to be, drug paraphernalia left behind. This
particular incident was not a big deal, and I lucked out. The last time
this happened to me, the intruders sliced through a ceiling membrane
(greenhouse looks like a plastic covered quonset hut) on the greenhouse,
stole a couple pricey microscopes, a balance, some tools, and totally
trashed a experiment worth tens of thousands of dollars. I have for years
requested additional coverage for these areas by AgOps all to no avail.
The responses range from, "We do not patrol AgOps" to "We do not have the
resources to patrol AgOps with any regularity.". I am hopeful with a
changing of the guard in UCRPD that we can get a least a cruiser to swing
by at least once if not twice an evening and simply look for suspicious
activity. As you know, there are literally millions of dollars of research
going on out there, and so far, we have been relatively lucky.
