I hope you’re summer is going well.



EH&S would like to provide you a courtesy notification of upcoming events
for your awareness.



*CUPA Inspections*



On Tuesday, October 11, 2022 to Thursday, October 13, 2022, UCR will be
inspected by the Certified Unified Program Agencies (CUPA), a
state-authorized consolidation of six environmental and emergency response
programs. CUPA inspects facilities that handle or store hazardous
materials, generate hazardous and medical waste, and own or operate
underground storage tanks. The last time UCR was inspected was over four
years ago. During these dates, the inspectors will randomly select areas of
particular interest within UCR laboratories, shops, and mechanical spaces
to review the handling and storage of hazardous waste management practices
and emergency response capabilities. The inspectors will be accompanied by
EH&S personnel.



Laboratories are highly encouraged to prepare their laboratories for the
inspection. Attached you will find a guidance document that can be
referenced for the preparation. Please share widely with your department
faculty.



*Laboratory Safety Escalation*



As we enter a new academic year, EH&S would like to take this opportunity
to remind faculty that we have begun conducting our annual laboratory
evaluations. We ask that faculty and lab personnel work to resolve the
findings within the allotted time period, and prolonged unresolved findings
will follow our established escalation process that is described in
our Laboratory
