[Entm-researchstaff] doors, masks, and policies

All,
We had a small incident over masks yesterday. So, I need to remind you
that there is no longer a campus mandate for wearing masks indoors, *except*
for people who are not fully vaccinated and boosted. You cannot require
people who are fully vaccinated and boosted to wear a mask. What this
means is...
- Check your doors and update your signage. Bill Sutton has a template
(found on the main entry) that works well. Be sure to remove signage that
says masks are required for everyone.
- For your own offices and labs you may, of course, put up signage that
says, *"For everyone's health and safety, we ask that you please wear a
mask while indoors. If you are not fully vaccinated and boosted, you are
required to wear a mask indoors." *And if you do this, have some extra
masks around to hand out to people if they need one. If somebody refuses,
ask again nicely and that is about it. You need not engage in political
nonsense--simply explain your wishes and the actual campus requirements.
If an employee or student refuses to wear a mask indoors, there is not much
you can do. Do not threaten or bully them into it. If crap escalates, let
me know.
- And it is frustrating I know, but there is no way we have access to
medical records affirming if someone is fully vaccinated. We just have to
trust them.
The message sent out earlier yesterday regarding the 250 seminar and masks
was entirely appropriate as it did not indicate masks were required, only
requested.
