As mentioned in my email yesterday, below is an email outlining the administrative leadership changes in CNAS. In particular, Cherie is staying on as interim FOM and Wendi Tapia is returning to Entomology!

The transition of Wendi’s return begins in June.

Hello CNAS Leaders,

After 20+ years of service to the college, Jeff Obrecht is retiring at the end of June.  His administrative leadership in the Department of Chemistry, attention to research units, mentorship to staff and flexibility to step-up to additional tasks as needed throughout his tenure stand as testimony to Jeff’s dedication to his work.  Please join me in congratulating Jeff on his upcoming retirement.

Jeff’s departure from Chemistry leaves big shoes to fill in that Department.   Please help me welcome Kathy Carrington to the department of Chemistry as she will assume the role of FAO.  Kathy is transferring from Entomology to Chemistry where she will lend a wealth of expertise and years of experience to the department.  Chemistry is lucky to have such an important role in caring and capable hands.

There is a bit of a domino effect as we navigate these leadership changes.  Other transitions:


·         As Kathy leaves Entomology, Wendi Tapia will return to Entomology as FAO.  Wendi, via promotion, garnered the FAO role in Physics and spent two years there as a champion for the Department.  Wendi’s return to Entomology is a lateral transfer.



·         Cherie Pierce will continue in Entomology as the acting FOM.  Thanks to Cherie for her flexibility and diligence in providing expert assistance to Entomology.



·         Guille Vallejo will transition from EMN to Physics to assume the role of acting FAO.  Guille has worked in Physics prior and is more than ready to take the lead.  A recruitment for the Physics FAO position will take place in late summer.  Please congratulate Guille as she accepts this newest challenge.



·         Dominica Albitre recently transferred from IIGB to Physics.  Dominica brings a heap of analytical expertise to her new department.  She is acting as the FOM since Marcelina’s recent departure for a role in CHASS.  The Physics FOM position will go to recruitment later this summer.



·         Sherice is working on a transition plan for EMN FOM.  A recruitment in the September timeframe is planned.


 My thanks to everyone for your amazing flexibility, work ethic and good humor that has helped us meet the goal to provide excellent coverage to all our units.   I cannot offer enough thanks.  Questions are welcome.
