Hello

DPR is currently accepting applications for limited-term Research Scientist
II (with the possibility of becoming a permanent position) at the
California Department of Pesticide Regulation IPM/PUR program. The position
requires database skills (SQL and/or PL-SQL) and preferably Python and/or R.

Final Filing date: 11/14/2021

Under the general supervision of the Environmental Program Manager I
(Supervisory), the Research Scientist II (Epidemiology/Biostatistics) will
assist and be a resource to the Agricultural Pest Management Unit with
providing oversight on the comprehensive Agricultural Pesticide Use
Reporting (PUR) database and will be responsible for planning organizing
and carrying out duties related to it. The incumbent will independently and
comprehensively identify problems resulting from pesticide use that have
broad human health and environmental effects, and will identify, develop
and implement, innovative solutions grounded in scientific principles of
integrated pest management, sustainability, and endangered species. The
Research Scientist II will participate in scientific projects and programs
and conduct comprehensive, complex, and multifaceted scientific studies and
investigations, as well as assess issues of major importance to the
Department, including the production of quarterly granular chlorpyrifos
reports and annual pesticide use reports, to protect the state’s natural
resources and environmental and public health. Utilizes SQL, PL-SQL, Python
and/or R to help maintain the PUR database and summarize and/or analyze PUR
data.

Scientific Aide positions:

3 positions. Final Filing Date: 11/4/2021

These positions are with the Pesticide Use Reporting Program under the
Agricultural Pest Management Unit of the Integrated Pest Management Branch
of DPR. The Agricultural Pest Management Unit currently resides in the
CalEPA Bldg., however, telework options are available for these positions.
The incumbent will assist with the development and release of quarterly
chlorpyrifos reports and the Annual PUR Report and assist the PUR data
steward in maintaining the PUR database. Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates
pesticide use records for accuracy using departmental data systems;
consults with Research Scientists and County Agricultural Commissioner’s
with potentially incomplete or erroneous PUR information; and provides
timely follow-up regarding correcting potential PUR errors. Conduct data
searches, review records for accuracy, research pesticide products/labels
