Dear Entomofriends,

The EGSA would like to invite you to participate in this year's annual Entomology department t-shirt design contest. I know we are getting a little bit of a late start to things, but I want to see your most beautiful art so we can make some beautiful Entomological merch.

In the past, the design contest has only been open to graduate students, but EGSA is excited to expand the contest to include all members of our department.

The submission deadline is March 20th. We will vote on a winner, and the selected design will be printed on our next order of shirts (or mugs, pint glasses, etc.). The winner will get a free shirt and a $15 merchandise credit (i.e. cost of another shirt). Please send designs to Luke Kresslein (rkres001 at ucr.edu<mailto:rkres001 at ucr.edu>). Some previous submissions are included for your inspiration.

Here are some tips:
· The fewer colors included in the design, the easier and cheaper it is to print, which means we make more profit
· For events around UCR, many people like designs that say “UCR” or “Riverside” or whatever. For events away from Riverside, like ESA, sometimes people don’t want “UCR”
· If you prefer a physical medium (drawing or painting) rather than digital (Photoshop or Illustrator), we can work with you to digitize your art
· Designs that are square or fit approximately to a standard sheet of paper (8.5x11) tend to maximize what will fit on a shirt compared to long & skinny designs
· If the background can be removed, there will be less printing material on the shirt, and it will feel better when worn (less plasticy)
Best,
Luke
