*Subject:* Forensic Entomology Faculty Search

*Assistant Professor Forensic Entomology (tenure track)*

*Principal Duties*

The Department of Entomology seeks to fill a tenure track position in
Forensic Entomology. This is a nine-month appointment at the level of
assistant professor with primary teaching and secondary research
responsibilities, and will also serve as the Director of the Purdue
Forensic Science program*.*

*Responsibilities:* The successful candidate will be responsible for
Forensics teaching within the Department of Entomology, consisting of 4
core, large enrollment forensic science classes, 3 specialist forensic
entomology classes, and experiential classes (within the Purdue Honors
College or Study Abroad classes) as opportunities arise. Entomology’s
forensic classes collectively make up the Forensic Science minor, the
largest minor on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus by enrollment, and the
Forensic Entomology Area of Concentration (AoC; within our Insect Biology
major) a major area of recruitment growth for our department. Our Forensic
Entomology AoC is designed to qualify students for certification exams
offered by the American Board of Forensic Entomology, and the successful
candidate would be certification of the program by the Forensic Science
Programs Accreditation Commission.

In addition to teaching duties, the successful candidate would be
encouraged to develop a research program in either Forensic Entomology or
in the Science of Teaching and Learning, using Forensic Science instruction
as a model for improving STEM education. To assist in building this
research program, the mentoring of graduate and undergraduate research
students, will be expected. Finally, the successful candidate will have
the opportunity to work with department specialists to create workforce
development, community outreach or continuing education materials for
medico-legal users of forensic science (e.g. law enforcement, coroner
office staff etc.).

*Qualifications:* Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline
area (e.g. Entomology, Biology, Forensic Science) with specific training in
Forensic Entomology. Relevant post-doctoral or College-level teaching
experience is necessary. Ideal candidate would have interests in
integrating Forensic Science into the broader field of Entomology, or in
developing innovative STEM education methods. Salary will be commensurate
with qualifications and experience. A background check is required for
this position.
