To the PIs of the Entomology Department,
I am writing because some of your labs have expressed interest in receiving
the Sierra Rescue provided course that consists of Wilderness First Aid,
CPR, and EpiPen training. With these 3 certifications, it will be possible
for the participants to obtain a California EMSA card, which will allow for
a prescription request for a first aid kit EpiPen to those who need it in
their lab’s first aid kits.
The training is an 8-hour class and will take at the Boyd Canyon Field
Station. The class will be held outdoors and there is a maximum class size
to comply with social distancing guidelines so interested parties need to
be sure to register quickly. CoE is able to cover some of the cost for the
class, but participants will need to cover $60 for their part.
Below are the details and the registration links.
Participants will be required to follow COVID precautions and wear masks;
and should bring water, lunch, snacks, hat, sunglasses, masks, hand
sanitizer and anything else they need to be self-sufficient for the day (no
food services are available on-site). Spots in the training are limited to
maintain a small class size and available first come first serve for UC
field researchers, faculty, staff, and students that work on field projects
or teach field courses. Deadline to register is Monday April 19 as the
final roster must be provided to Boyd Deep Canyon Desert Research Center in
advance for gate access. Registered participants will be provided
additional instructions prior to the training date. Note: Boyd is
approximately a 1.5 hour drive from the UCR campus.
