Hello Everyone,

Below and attached is updated information regarding COVID-19 symptom monitoring and reporting procedures.

We did receive clarification this week that supervisors are able to insist an employee go home if they either have symptoms or have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19.

Even though this is intended for supervisors, we should all be on the same page knowing what to expect from each other. I have highlighted a few pertinent sentences.

Best,

Dear DA's,

Please forward this information to all supervisors in your departments.

Attached is the UCR COVID-19 Symptom Monitoring and Reporting Procedures for Covered Employees and Supervisors. For the purposes of the document, covered employees includes all academic and staff employees and volunteers.

If an employee is concerned they have been exposed to COVID-19 or has symptoms of COVID-19, they should call the COVID hotline (1-844-827-6827). If the employee reports an issue to the hotline or reports symptoms on the daily symptom survey, they will be alerted that they need to stay home until the COVID hotline can investigate the situation further.

>From there, the COVID-19 hotline conducts an investigation to determine if the employee needs to self-quarantine for 14 days and if any others on campus were potentially exposed and need to self-quarantine. Supervisors should not be directing anyone to self-quarantine, only to report to the COVID-19 hotline. There are trained employees who make determinations based on CDC and Department of Public Health guidelines working there.

If an employee is ordered to self-quarantine, Orlandrea and I are alerted by the COVID hotline to reach out to the employee and the supervisor regarding leave options and return to work. We will contact the employee and the supervisor to discuss next steps. It is imperative that supervisors maintain confidentiality if they are contacted about an employee who has been ordered to self-quarantine.

UCR has set the standard that employees can only return to work if they provide a note from a medical provider. We do not require that employees provide a negative test result as this isn't necessarily sufficient to prove they do not have COVID-19. Employees can get tested if they want and if their physician recommends it but we do not require employees to get tested.

If you have any questions, please let me know. The guidelines are constantly being updated and it is very important that we all stay up-to-date on the guidelines.

Thank you,
Sarah
