Currently, it will take place June 15-19th (the week after the end of the spring quarter). The Entomology Summer Camp is an amazing opportunity to teach high school-aged students about different fields in entomology. But if you don't want to work with the kids, there are plenty of opportunities to help in other ways! It is also a great way to get a lot of outreach hours as any time spent working on the camp (meetings, curriculum development, logistical planning, advertising, etc.) can be used for outreach hours. We essentially have four different roles you can volunteer for:

1. Administration
Logistical work
Coordinates registration, background checks for counselors, handles camp money, safety training with counselors, arranges parking, deals with EH&S
Ensures other committees are keeping on track

2. Advertising
Promotes and advertises the camp through social media and advertising flyers (at schools, libraries, insect fair, etc.)
Creates the design for the advertisements
Brainstorms creative ways to reach broader audiences
Taking pictures of students for social media and future promotions

3. Curriculum Development
Develops the curriculum for the camp. Includes, lectures, planned activities, camp schedule, purchasing supplies, reserving rooms, can help with the camp set-up if not a counselor
Can divide into smaller subgroups based on the specific days/topics
Ideally includes a diversity of grad students from different fields and disciplines

4. Camp Counselors (only one that works with the students!)
Is in charge of the campers during the week of the camp
Will have to do background checks and safety training
At least one counselor a day should have CPR certification
Ideally includes a diversity of grad students from different fields and disciplines
Counselors can sign up for specific days
Taking pictures of students for social media and future promotions

If you are newer student and are worried about your qualifications, don't be! Many grad students volunteer in their first year and do an amazing job. We are also accepting upperclassmen entomology students if they want to volunteer (though we do require that you have taken at least ENTM100). I will also be looking for people to take charge of Administration, Advertising, or Curriculum Development, please let me know! It is a great skill to put on your CV and I will still be here to assist in any way that I can!

Here is the link to the spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1w7tGS6NNys_s92kP-wBkgMelvJo1WIScJYIpDY42RcM/edit?usp=sharing
And if you are a grad student and do not have access to the spreadsheet, please email Sarah <sarah.schroeder@email.ucr.edu> to be added to the EGSA google drive.
