> Dear UC Community,
> The California Ecology and Conservation (CEC) <https://ucnature.org/teaching/cec/application/> field course is actively recruiting for the upcoming Fall Term. The deadline to apply is July 3!
> We appreciate your help in sharing this opportunity with undergraduate students in your department.
> Students from across the UC system spend seven weeks living and studying in UC reserves/field-stations conducting independent scientific research with a focus on research methods, experimental design, data analysis, scientific writing, and public speaking. Students must have passed an introductory biology or ecology course to be eligible to apply.
> CEC has two program components
> Required for all students - NRS BIO/ENVS 188 California Ecology and Conservation, 19 quarter units or 12.7 semester units.
> Required for semester students - NRS BIO/ENVS 189 Critical Conservation Issues in California, 2.3 semester units during the spring or fall terms. (Starts the first day of the semester term, ahead of the 188 course)
> Benefits to departments and campus
> No enrollment loss: Participating students count in their department enrollment numbers, allowing departments to maintain their enrollment goals.
> 100 % cost return: UC EAP returns 100% of instructional cost to students’ departments, allowing departments to maintain their budget.
> Financial Aid Friendly: Additionally, financial aid offices also receive Return-to-Aid, allowing qualifying students to use their home-campus financial aid.
> Program fees: The total additional cost to participate is $4,480. Students still pay their standard UC tuition and services fee.
> UC pre-approved courses for major requirements
> UC EAP serves as the Office of Record for the course and supports course mapping to major requirements. Grades are reported to the student’s home campus registrar’s office and automatically transferred to their transcript.
> If you have any questions or would like to schedule a call to discuss how this fits into your department's curriculum mapping, please don't hesitate to reach out.
