Dear Entom undergrads!

Are you ready to dive deep into the fascinating world of insect
genomics? *ENTM101:
Evolution of Insect Genomes* is one of the *most exciting and timely*
electives you can take in the Entomology major— as it is one of the
recommended electives in 5 out of 6 concentrations in the Entomology major:
General Insect Biology Concentration, Medical, Public Health & Epidemiology
Concentration, Insect Molecular Biology & Genomics Concentration,
Conservation, Ecology & Evolution Concentration, and Science Education
Concentration.

This course explores the cutting-edge intersection of genomics,
bioinformatics, and evolutionary biology, with a specific focus on insects—*the
most diverse group of animals on Earth*. With over 850 insect genomes
sequenced, this field is booming, and you'll be at the forefront of the
action!

*Why take ENTM101?*

· *In-Demand Knowledge*: Get hands-on with the genomic data that's
transforming our understanding of insect evolution. Explore the genetic
basis of insect traits like pesticide resistance, host plant
specialization, and much more.

· *Competitive Edge*: The skills you’ll gain in this course—critical
thinking, problem-solving, and intro genomics and bioinformatics
techniques—will make you a standout candidate for biology jobs in
academia, industry, or public health after graduation.

· *Real-World Impact*: Discuss the ethical and practical implications
of genomic technologies in agriculture, pest control, conservation, and
human health. This is a chance to engage with issues that could shape the
future of both science and society.

Whether you're looking to enhance your career prospects or deepen your
understanding of evolutionary biology, ENTM101 is a course that will
challenge and inspire you. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to explore the
genomic foundations of the insect world and apply what you learn to
real-world problems!

If you have any questions or need more details, feel free to reach out.
