Hi all,
My name is Mel, and I am a graduate student in Dr. Houston Wilson's lab. For my dissertation, I am conducting research on the newly invasive pest the black fig fly (BFF) that has been making a mess of fig orchards all over the state.
This summer quarter I am looking for students to help me with my experiments for 2-4 research credits through ENTM 197. Experiments will include a trapping study investigating new potential attractants for the fly, a pupation depth study, and the beginnings of a parasitoid survey. Students would mostly focus on processing samples from the trapping experiment, however, we will also discuss one or two readings a week. These readings will cover the foundations of integrated pest management, experimental design, and agroecology. We can also adjust the reading based on what the students are into as well.
If you are interested, please send me (mthay002 at ucr.edu) your resume/CV and a brief blurb about yourself! I can't wait to hear from y'all!
Sincerely,
Mel
