*PASSION FOR PARASITES?*
Entomology 230, Entomophagous Insects, will be offered in the *fall quarter
of 2025*. The course focuses on the biology and identification of insect
parasitoids. This is a 4 credit laboratory/lecture course. Lectures and
laboratories are devoted to *parasitoid biology* and the *collection and
identification of parasitoids*. This is your big chance to learn about
kamikazi chalcids that jump to certain death into the jaws of their antlion
host!
The course involves 3-4 weekend (day-long) field trips in southern
California to collect hosts and parasitoids, rearing of parasitoids,
developing a professionally curated collection of insects, learning to
sight identify common parasitoids, and exploration of the universe of a
spectacular group of insects!
Prerequisites are Entomology 100, Entomology 107 or an equivalent course.
Undergraduates may take the course if they have had ENT 109, and with
permission of the instructor.
The course is recommended for students interested in Biological Control,
Pest Management, Systematics, southern California habitat exploration. or
entomology in general.
Lecture/lab Wednesday/Friday 1:00-4:50 PM CHPM 109
