Hello!

My name is Aushee Heagney, this year's president of the Natural History Museum Club at UCR. I am excited to invite you to our annual Careers in Museum Mixer on November 22nd, 2024 from 4pm - 7pm in HUB 269.

For those who are unfamiliar with NHMC, we are an on-campus student organization dedicated to providing multidisciplinary education and opportunities for students interested in museum work, which would otherwise be inaccessible or limited in scope. We accomplish this through volunteering with faculty utilizing collections on campus. We have assisted with projects like Entomology outreach drawers and inventorying sections of the Geology department's specimens. For more information or to see photos, please see our HighlanderLink<https://highlanderlink.ucr.edu/organization/nhmc>.

Our Careers in Museum Mixer (CIMM) aims to create a space for students to connect with faculty and ask questions about careers in museums and the application of collections across various fields. This type of information can be challenging for students to obtain, particularly those without prior connections. We believe museum work should be accessible to all students--regardless of background--and this event is a step toward that goal. Your insights as a museum professional or frequent user of museum specimens would be invaluable to attendees.

We're pleased to have Ian Wright, a UCR Alum and Curator of Natural History at the Museum of Riverside, as a special guest speaker. Faculty members will share brief 30-second introductions about their work and available opportunities, such as volunteer roles and paid positions, as well as answer individual questions during the mingling time. Light refreshments will be provided. Please fill out the appropriate section on the RSVP form or reach out personally if you have concerns over dietary restrictions.

Please RSVP yes or no here<https://forms.gle/YbjmWkED7MM7UsZ67> before November 20th. Feel free to share this invitation with colleagues, graduate students, or undergraduates who might be interested. The more, the merrier!

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to me at Aheag001 at ucr.edu<mailto:Aheag001 at ucr.edu>.

I look forward to seeing you at the event!
Best,
--
Aushee Heagney (she/her)
2024-2025 President of NHMC
