Hello all,

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County (NHMLAC) is recruiting for
the 2024–2025 UNLAB cohort. Program information is below.

Understanding Nature and Los Angeles Biodiversity (*UNLAB*) is a paid
NSF-funded post baccalaureate research and training program offering
hands-on research experience to recent college graduates with an interest
in careers in the biological and paleontological sciences. Accepted
participants will be full time museum employees, working at the museum(s)
for 1 full year (July 2024–June 2025). In 2024 we expect to hire 10 UNLAB
participants. This cohort will take part in various research projects
focused on Los Angeles biodiversity, gaining critical research skills,
receiving peer and professional mentoring, and learning about STEM careers
in a natural history museum setting. The program is intended for
individuals who *did not gain substantial research experience as
undergraduates*, as well as those who are from backgrounds underrepresented
in the biological sciences.

Who is eligible: applicants must meet all the following requirements:

   -

College graduation date falls between July 2020 and June 2024.
Exceptions will be allowed for family-related circumstances, medical leave,
   or military service.
   -

Did NOT have substantial research experience during or following their
   undergraduate experience.
   -

Completed at least an introductory course in biology, ecology, and/or
   evolution.
   -

Are a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful refugee, or permanent resident
   of the United States.

When is the program: July 1, 2024–June 30, 2025

Where is the program: Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County, Los
Angeles, CA

More information: https://nhm.org/unlab

https://etap.nsf.gov/award/736/opportunity/8581

Application window: February 1, 2024–February 29, 2024

We particularly encourage applications from individuals who self-identify
as belonging to a group that is underrepresented (or have experienced
barriers) in biological science and/or museum careers.

If you would like to reach out directly with any questions or concerns
please feel free to contact the UNLAB team: unlab at nhm.org.
